This is why we love the "End of Financial Year Sale":
I got these gorgeous shoes from Nine West plus a nude pink clutch from Tony Bianco for about ONLY $50.00 in total. The original price is up to 200something, which is almost 75% off.
It starts from June every year; girls around me begin to get crazy. The shops are crazy too. Walking across Rundle Mall, you will see red tags everywhere. Yeah, you are just on the way to uni, but you end up going home with empty wallet and massive amount of food to feed your closet.
Somehow, I hate this feeling of finding out a product became on big sale which I bought with full price. I could have waited! Who knows, when you fell in love with these shoes in the first eye, you thought the whole world of women will take the same one, and it will be soon sold out in the next second. So you had to get it! The truth is, we could not think rationally while we are shopping, as women, most likely. After all, this sale season became every women’s “gold digging” month. I hope that in this month, you have accidentally found something you liked but didn’t buy before.
I absolutely cannot control myself in the world of heels. My love for pumps has been growing with time, and I don’t see a maximum level. Ha!
As a female shopaholic, you probably have noticed or even experienced the online shopping channels. The most well-known ones I can name without thinking is Net-A-Porter, ASOS, Urban Outfitter, American Apparel, Shopbob and more! Whenever you visit one of your fashion icon’s blog, you see those banners from top to bottom.
Which day I could not remember exactly, when Net-A-Porter started its big sale. Damn, I rush in straight away, almost lost my mind, seeing “my” Valentino, Chris Louboutin and Jimmy Choos. After clicking on the link for every shoe me definitely going to buy, there is this sarcastic phrase which broke my heart: “Out of Stock”! I really cannot imagine how fast those women are, and start questioning is there anything fishy about it. I am not questioning this brand here, but it is reasonable for me to wonder, right? Or you might have the same confusion?
Net-A-Porter is mostly for luxury or specific designers’ items in my perspective. Some other websites are more affordable for the majority of shoppers, such as ASOS. It has this “up to70%” sale all around the year, even I received email about their recent sale, it did not brought a lot interest. Because it does not stand out, I knew it would always have big sales going on, I prefer to shop on other online shopping sites which rarely have such massive sale. For example, I click in every email link from Topshop and Lipsy. Although they have sale items all the time, it will never get this big! Some ‘authentic”(recognised) brands with solid stores started their online shopping services too! Like FCUK, Witchy and Dotti. Their shipping fee is not helping with the sale. I was attracted by the sale, but the shipping fee is like pouring cold water on my “fire”. I will use the example of comparing shopping experience in both Topshop and Dotti. I can only shop in Topshop online since there is only one solid Topshop store located in Australia, I don’t mind pay for the shipping fee. But Dotti already had big sales in its five solid stores located in Adelaide; I could easily go into store, touch the fabric, try it on and make my decision. I might only use its online shopping service for “online only” items ,or items I wanted while I visit its store but my available size is found only online.
I have also noticed that, many shops tried to sell as much as they can before the storm of “End of Financial Year” sale. Few weeks before this storm, Store A putting up this big red tag of “everything 20% off in store” “nothing over $20”. There are some excited shopaholic thought that the big sale has just started and rush into the shop, acting like they are running 1st position in this race. (I used to be one of them, same thing, cannot think rationally when I see nice things) Now I see this as those businesses’ strategy, giving a bit sweetness that distract/misled (I am not sure which word is proper, since it comes up with personal emotions) crazy women to shop, the signal of “End Financial Year Sale” loomed out of this “early 20% off” in Store A. When the storm started, it will still follow the trend, maybe up to further 40-50% sale? I mean it is understandable at the business’ perspective, if I can earn more; I do it in a smart way.
But as a self-financed student, facing all the other living costs; I should learn to shop smarter.
After all, these are just my experiences ^_^ I am sure they might be many variables; that is the purpose of studying consumers’ behaviours, right?
To finish this entry, I would like to show the pair of shoes I got from Forever New,for about ONLY $30.00
